About Ken
Sailor, cook, traveler, and family man
Hi, I'm Ken Michaelchuck — and welcome to my little corner of the internet. This site started as a way to share photos and stories with family and friends, and it's grown into a running scrapbook of the adventures, gatherings, and everyday moments that make life interesting.
Sailing was probably my biggest passion outside of family. I raced on Friday nights out of Milwaukee and have taken some longer offshore passages — including a 2,100 nautical mile crossing of the Atlantic Ocean from the Cape Verde Islands to Grenada. There's nothing quite like being three days out from land with nothing but ocean in every direction. We sold our boat a few years ago, but the fond memories will always be with us.
Family is everything. We hold an annual reunion every first Saturday in August — always at the G-town Pool, no exceptions. Over the years I've watched kids grow up, welcomed new grandchildren, and tried to document as much of it as I can with a camera. This past August was the 27th consecutive year for our get-together and we have never been rained out, . . . yet.
Ken's Kitchen is my other creative outlet. I love experimenting with recipes and sharing what works (and occasionally what doesn't). A good steak dinner after a long sail is hard to beat.
In 2006, my wife Kathleen and I spent three weeks in Ghana, Africa visiting our son Jon, who was serving in the Peace Corps teaching in a small village called Bawku. It was one of the most eye-opening trips of my life. Since then and after selling the boat, we have embarked on many road trips across the USA. I'll get some pic's up on the site of those trips as well.
