I was in the Army from 1968 thru 1970. Made some good
friends and had some good experiences including ski training in the winter
and mountain and glacier training in the summer. We even
"fought" a forest fire in Kenai in the summer of 1969. Actually,
we put out the hot spots in areas the fire had already burned.
Of course, being 'grunts' (Infantry), we were lucky to be assigned to Alaska

Some trivia:
Do you know that at military funerals, the
21 gun salute stands for the sum of the numbers in the year 1776?
At the right is a nice photo of some of the wives who were with
us in the 'Yuke.' This particular photo was taken in April 1970 at
Melissa's first birthday party. Standing are Kathleen and Wendy.
Unfortunately I cannot recall the names of the other two wives. I remember
that the lady with the helmet was our next door neighbor and her husband was in
the Air Force. They were from Florida. Can anyone help with the
other?
